Considering they (Latvia) played yesterday and Canada was rested. What a joke the entire Canadian schedule was. Easy ride right to the semis.

Good effort for Latvia for being the underdog and putting on quite a show for Team Canada, especially the goalie....only 21 years of age and he took on the entirety of Canada.

My friend, Latvia played well, but Canada won. Every fan supports his / her team, just as you support Latvia. Supporting any team does not mean being assertive or being rude. Canada did not play to its potential today, yet they won, quite comfortably. Watch the next 2 games especially the Canada V USA game and you would know why Canada is the champion on the ice.

I wouldn't call it "comfortable win" by any means. And this only fact gives huge respect to Latvian team. Was a great game!

Sheethead - Latvia had to play a real game yesterday, unlike Canada who were able to rest. Canada had an easy ride to this stage.

So now the scheduling of the game is a problem, is that it? Canada is going to win both - the Men's and the Women's Gold in Hockey. Just wait and watch.

It's not all about money, it's about talent and the Canadian boys have talent. No need to come on here and spout nonsense. Just be happy that your goalie played a great game.

Most often the semi final games are usually the games of the tournament.
I am sure the next one, CANADA v USA, will definitely be the one to watch.
Good for Canada, the final would be much easier, when they take on either Finland or Sweden.

Is this typical to all big countries with lots of money?- e.g. only things I read about Latvia's performance here were- "Latvia plays physical and scrappy, Darzins scores, Gudlevskis panting..." Who was desperate not to let the game into sudden death overtime??? Is this a disgrace to a big, rich country to pay some proper respect to a small one? Apparently so.

lets not get carried away here...the Latvian goalie was facing a team with pee wee tier 4 talent as best. if Detroit were smart they would leave babcock in Russia to coach and hockey Canada would be long overdue for a complete house cleaning.

It was not a shame for Canada. It was a miracle from Latvian team... :) This year our players got in quarter-final and that's why AT LAST they decided to fight until last second of the game.. And you know what? That's really great! I hope next year they gonna try even more harder than this year!
This was very good game! :)

Well, not so fast my friend. You may have to take back your words once CANADA wins Gold in Men's and Women's hockey.
The strategy is to preserve your best for the last.
Wait and watch.

Were you watching the game or do you comment on things you don't understand afterwards? If you watched the game you would have seen that the puck remained in the Latvian zone for the majority of the game. Canada outshot Latvia 57-16. You know what got Latvia to stay in so long, their goaltending!

The Canadians game against Latvia should be a good opportunity to step up the offence and get the forwards going. They should get a win and move forward to play the USA. That could be the game of the tournament.

We have multi million dollar talent on the ice. We have bought and paid for the gold. Which is exactly why I'm glad this is the end of the NHL at the Olympics.

Sorry but.... how did we buy and pay for gold? You DO comprehend that the NHL pays for their players salaries and not the Canadian Olympic committee right? So not really sure how our players, most of whom play for American teams are "buying" gold. But keep eating your miserable bowl of bitterness pie.

To be so blind and unconcerned that Team Canada has ZERO chemistry in this entire series escapes me!
What a shamefully lacklustre performance by Team Canada, excluding Carey Price and Roberto Luongo.
Team USA showed up for every game and shows passing skills and drive. Canada, not so much.
Cindy Crosby again wins the diving award. Quite the golden shower boy that Cindy.

Canada couldn't have asked for an easier ride to the semis. Latvia for a quarter final??? Austia, Swiss, Norway??? So 2 games left and Canada finally has to play a decent contender. It's ALMOST like the schedule was rigged to give canada a free ride.

You do realize that you're clueless, right? The round robin is an easy schedule for all the top teams. That's what seeding is for, as is the case in all sports. And Canada didn't play the Swiss. The fact that you think that they did shows your ignorance. The played Finland, whom they beat, and who is also in the Semis. Of the 4 teams in the semis, Canada is the only country to have played one of the other 3 in the tournament. And best them. So your "easy schedule" thing is a load of crap. Get some new material, educate yourself on the subject, then start commenting. Or continue on and keep looking stupid. It doesn't matter to me.

No call on the early hit to Travarse (interference as he never reached the the puck), bet Canada would have been called on a similar play. I am surprised at how well Latvia did, considering being out shot by a ton. Tells you that if you have a good goalie, skate hard&fast, stay close to your net and not worry much about winning, you can play with anyone on Olympic ice.
Also Canada maybe needs a shooting coach!
